40′ Tugboat – Take Five – Downloadable Boat Building Plans

“The 40′ Tugboat – Take five was delivered to us in Rotterdam, Holland. We sailed the boat home to Norway crossing the North Sea. I must really approve this design. Morten did a distinctive job designing this boat. It handles extremely well at sea and it sails like a dream. My biggest compliment for the design.”

This 40′ Tugboat is a full displacement yacht suitable for cruising and living. It is spacious with a master cabin, saloon and wheelhouse.

This tugboat has a 200 HP engine giving it a cruising speed of 8 knots and a top speed of around 10 knots. A bow thruster gives full maneuverability when entering ports.

The accommodation in the master cabin is luxurious with lots of space, plenty of closets and nice wide beds. There’s even a bathroom with a shower. There’s also room for a laundry with both washing machine and dryer. The aft cabin is somewhat cozier than the master cabin but still offers plenty of room for 1-2 people.

The saloon has a nice large L-settee and the pantry offers the perfect setting for dining or just relaxing with a cup of tea or coffee. The saloon roof can be enclosed with a rail.

The wheelhouse is fully equipped with everything necessary for controlling the yacht.

Downloadable mini camper boat plans – Build your own 16’ Mini camper

The task was not simple for this design. Make a 15 feet boat with 4 bunks, head and pantry. Suitable for outboard engine, electric trolling motor and pedal drive. Well I didn’t succeed! The boat became 9 inches longer; it was simply not possible to squeeze everything into 15 feet so almost an extra foot was necessary.

The boat has a simple classic layout two bunks forward and two bunks aft. In between is the head and pantry. With 4 adults onboard the boat will properly be a little crowded but two adults and two kids should be all right.

The boat is not suitable for unprotected waters. The high freeboard will make it difficult to make maneuvers in strong wind, so therefore it is best to go on calm lakes, rivers or canals.

This affordable little mini cruiser is made to set perfect conditions for daytrips and weekends. With a length of only 17’ it is easily to trailer and launch – yet it accommodate the basic needs for two persons.

The cockpit is large and open. The standard layout is with no permanent seats, so it is customisable with any arrangement you may like. We suggest you simply bring some comfortable folding chairs. That way you will have the most flexible layout possible.

The engine is placed in a well at the aft. Nicely put away to ensure a quite cruise. The outboard engine is the perfect choice, since the motor installation is the simplest and easiest possible.
